A commercial boiler plant.

Scroll through a typical Ontario boiler room. Each part is highlighted with the brand Metro Thermal Supply Inc. represents for it, so engineers, wholesalers and contractors can see the whole plant in one place. Tap a number to jump to a part.

01B-1 · B-2 · Heat source

Commercial condensing boilers

[Boiler brand]Placeholder brand

Two floor-standing condensing boilers on a concrete housekeeping pad, sharing the load and backing each other up. They modulate to match demand and condense flue gas to recover extra heat.

02V-1 to V-4 · Venting

Exhaust and fresh-air intake

[Venting brand]Placeholder brand

Every boiler has its own sealed two-pipe vent: a stainless steel exhaust and a separate fresh-air intake, both run up through the roof. The boilers never burn room air.

03G-1 · G-2 · Fuel

Gas train

[Gas valve brand]Placeholder brand

Yellow gas piping drops to each boiler with a manual shutoff, a regulator vented to outdoors and a drip leg that catches debris before it reaches the burner.

04RV-1 · RV-2 · Safety

Pressure relief valves

[Relief valve brand]Placeholder brand

Each boiler has its own relief valve, piped with a drip pan elbow down to a floor drain so a lift never sprays the room.

05LWCO-1 · LWCO-2 · Safety

Low-water cutoffs

[Safety controls brand]Placeholder brand

A probe on each boiler supply shuts the burner down if the water level drops, protecting the heat exchanger from dry firing.

06P-1 · P-2 · Boiler loops

Boiler circulators

[Circulator brand]Placeholder brand

A dedicated circulator on each boiler return keeps flow through the heat exchanger whenever that boiler fires.

07T-1 · T-2 · Instruments

Thermometers and gauges

[Gauge brand]Placeholder brand

Industrial thermometers on the supply and return headers, plus pressure gauges on the pump discharges, so a tech can read the plant at a glance.

08AS-1 · Water quality

Air and dirt separator

[Separator brand]Placeholder brand

A floor-standing separator pulls air and dirt out of the system water. An automatic vent on top releases the air and the blowdown valve at the bottom flushes the dirt.

09ET-1 · Pressure

Expansion tank

[Expansion tank brand]Placeholder brand

A floor-standing bladder tank absorbs the water’s expansion as it heats and keeps system pressure steady. It connects at the separator, the point of no pressure change.

10CF-1 · Water treatment

Chemical pot feeder

[Water treatment brand]Placeholder brand

A bypass feeder piped around the system pumps lets the service tech add corrosion inhibitor to the system water without shutting anything down.

11BF-1 · PRV-1 · Make-up water

Make-up water and backflow preventer

[Backflow brand]Placeholder brand

A reduced-pressure backflow preventer protects the city water supply, with a pressure-reducing valve and a water meter to track how much make-up water the system takes.

12WS-1 · Water treatment

Water softener

[Softener brand]Placeholder brand

A resin tank with its own brine tank takes the hardness out of incoming water, protecting heat exchangers and the hot water tank from scale.

13MV-1 · Temperature control

Three-way mixing valve

[Mixing valve brand]Placeholder brand

A motorized three-way valve low on the piping blends hot supply with cooler return water from the bypass, so the building loop gets exactly the temperature it needs.

14P-3 · P-4 · Distribution

System pumps

[Pump brand]Placeholder brand

A duplex pair of vertical inline pumps with integrated variable-speed drives. One runs, one stands by, and they swap duty to even out the wear.

15SD-1 · FC-1 · Pump fittings

Suction diffusers and flex connectors

[Pump fittings brand]Placeholder brand

Suction diffusers straighten the flow and strain out debris at each pump inlet. Braided stainless flex connectors on the discharges stop vibration and noise travelling down the piping.

16Isolation and check valves

Butterfly and check valves

[Valve brand]Placeholder brand

Gear-operated butterfly valves isolate the boilers and pumps for service, and check valves on the pump discharges stop backflow through the standby pump.

17BV-1 · BV-2 · Balancing

Flow-measuring balancing valves

[Balancing valve brand]Placeholder brand

Set and verify the flow through each pump. Test ports let the balancer read the flow directly with a meter during commissioning.

18HX-1 · Heat transfer

Plate heat exchanger

[Heat exchanger brand]Placeholder brand

Stainless plates pass heat from the boiler loop to a separate circuit, such as a glycol snow-melt loop or domestic water, without the two fluids ever mixing.

19BAS-1 · Controls

Building automation panel

[Controls brand]Placeholder brand

The boiler plant controller stages the boilers, runs the pumps and reports to the building automation system. Fused disconnects on the wall feed the pumps.

20GD-1 · Life safety

Gas and CO detection

[Gas detection brand]Placeholder brand

A wall-mounted detector watches for natural gas and carbon monoxide and can shut the boilers down. The red emergency shut-off sits right below it.

21CN-1 · Condensate

Condensate neutralizer

[Neutralizer brand]Placeholder brand

Both boilers drain their acidic condensate through a neutralizer that raises its pH before it reaches the floor drain.

22Headers · Insulation

Insulated headers

[Insulation brand]Placeholder brand

The supply and return headers are insulated and jacketed in white PVC to cut heat loss and keep the room cooler.

23DHW-1 · Domestic hot water

Hot water storage tank

[Water heater brand]Placeholder brand

Stores domestic hot water for the building, with a thermostatic mixing valve on the outlet to prevent scalding, a recirculation pump to keep hot water at the taps and its own relief valve.

24UH-1 · Space heating

Hot water unit heater

[Unit heater brand]Placeholder brand

Hung from the deck and fed from the heating loop, it keeps the boiler room itself warm and protects piping from freezing near the louvre.

For manufacturers

Questions we hear first

What territory do you cover?

All of Ontario, with the Greater Toronto Area and Golden Horseshoe as our core. We also take on national representation across Canada for the right line.

What kinds of manufacturers are you looking for?

HVAC, hydronic and plumbing manufacturers. That includes established brands entering Ontario and newer products that need a technical sales push to get specified.

Do you carry competing lines?

No. We represent one product per category, so your line gets our full attention in front of engineers, wholesalers and contractors.

Can you provide technical support for our products?

Yes. Training, selections, startup and warranty support are part of how we represent every line, and we can act as your local technical contact.
